The Transformation of the HIEC Career Lab: A Look Back at an Exciting Year

Over the past year, we’ve been hard at work transforming the
HIEC Career Lab into a space that truly reflects the needs of our growing community. Thanks to the generous support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) Capital Grant, this project has not only been a success but has already made a significant impact in Halton.

The renovations and expansion have enhanced our ability to support workforce development in new and exciting ways. The updated space has become a vibrant hub where students, job seekers, educators, and employers connect to build brighter futures.

A Space That’s Already Making an Impact

Since completing the project, we’ve seen our vision for the HIEC Career Lab come to life in incredible ways. Here are just a few highlights:

  • Take Our Kids to Work Day: We hosted a special day of career exploration and learning for students, showcasing the many opportunities available in skilled trades and beyond.
  • Summer Programming for Students: Our revamped space allowed us to welcome students for engaging hands-on career activities that helped them explore their skills, interests, and pathways.
  • Networking with Industry Leaders: We were proud to welcome the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association (APMA) and their innovative Project Arrow to our office for a networking event that connected employers, educators, and community partners.

These events are just the beginning of what’s possible in our newly renovated space.

What This Renovation Means for the Community

The transformation of the HIEC Career Lab has enabled us to:

  • Empower Young People: With more space and better facilities, we’ve expanded our ability to deliver impactful workshops, mentorship opportunities, and programs that help students take the next steps in their education and career pathways.
  • Support Job Seekers and Employers: The enhanced accessibility and functionality of our space make it the ideal setting for job coaching sessions, training programs, and employer engagement events.
  • Foster Collaboration: Community organizations and industry partners now have a welcoming venue for meetings, training, and networking, ensuring that educators, job seekers, and employers can work together more effectively.

A Big Thank You to the Ontario Trillium Foundation

This transformation would not have been possible without the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s support. Their investment in our project has enabled us to extend the lifespan of our facility, create new opportunities for connection, and better serve our community.

Looking Ahead

While the project has officially concluded, its impact will be felt for years to come. As we continue to host career development programs, training sessions, and community events, we’re reminded of the importance of creating spaces that bring people together and inspire them to reach their potential.

We’re excited to keep building on this success and look forward to sharing more stories of how the HIEC Career Lab is making a difference in Halton and beyond.

Thank you to the Ontario Trillium Foundation and to everyone in our community who has supported us along the way!
